Friends Meeting of Washington was established as an independent meeting on Florida Avenue in the District of Columbia in 1930. It provided a convenient place of worship for then President Herbert Hoover and his wife, Lou Henry Hoover; Mrs. Hoover was greatly involved with the creation of the meeting and the construction of the meeting house.
